When I attended police academy in 2000 we had discussions for entire class periods in our legal classes that hinged around the outcomes and ethics of shooting someone who had nothing or something innocuous looking in their hands. This was of course deal with from within the confines of the use of force matrix. The one argument that constantly came up was the issue of MMA trained fighters. The fact is that all throughout history it has been well documented that empty had techniques have always been a serious force to contend with. How does one keep from getting hit? Don't be there when the blow arrives. Even Bruce Lee carried a .38 cal. revolver. He was once asked why he carried a gun and his response was "because I can't punch you from across the street." That sort of covers the whole point of carrying a sidearm doesn't it?
