Is Slide Work Necessary?

Is Slide Work Necessary? Aha, that is the question that occupies many of us. I often here guys say "I machine my slides because it makes me faster, better, and more smooth." All of those reasons are fine and valid but none of them are really true. The only thing that makes you faster, better, and smooth is time on the range. Slowly putting box after box of ammo through your pistol is the only way to get better at pistol craft. To say that machining ones pistol makes one a better warrior negates all those that came before us. Long before there were machined pistol slides there were warriors who dedicated themselves to mastering the art of defending and killing with the handgun. None of them had the customized weapons that we do today and I've had the privilege of turning with some of those men. I can assure you that you haven't seen anything until you watch a master clear a room with a Beretta 92F. Straight up surgical shooting. Like I say in the video, shooting is a sport, if you want a customized weapon then go to it. I can point you towards some top notch dudes. But remember that you need to know the "why" behind your choice to customize your weapon. Even if that "why" us because you just like how it looks. That really is a perfectly valid reason. That's like telling me that you need a Ferrari. You want a Ferrari because it's cool and it goes fast but the only way to master that vehicle is to attend dedicated training courses for that vehicle. High speed is only cool when you're actually hitting what you're shooting at, everything else is just high priced showboating.

If you have slide work on your pistol our Concealed Carry Kydex Holsters will still offer the same great retention.

  • I have had minimal serrations done on some older slides over the years that were lacking from the factory. Helps a great deal but is it needed? With most modern pistols I would say perhaps not, some older platforms can benefit from added serrations. It depends on the model. I have had the existing factory serrations “dressed” and deeper and bevel cut which helps a great deal and is minimal change to the factory look of the slide.

  • You mention being able to refer top notch people who do slide customization. I’d also like grip texturing too. Please send contact info.

Much appreciate your video and time.

Always be ready and stay safe.

  • Wish I could get a DOS holster for my GLOCK 26 without the extended barrel end . Makes it uncomfortable to wear.

    Thank you
